Red Raiders head into Big 12 tournament as underdog
Three months ago, the Red Raiders headed to Las Vegas with a 9-1 record and the confidence that they could come away with a pair of wins.
But that’s not how events transpired.
Texas Tech went 0-for-21 from the perimeter in its 62-44 loss to Loyola before struggling offensively yet again in a 82-69 loss to Houston.
The Red Raiders were probably hoping that what happened in Vegas would stay in Vegas.
But it didn’t.
Coach Tubby Smith mentioned that he thought those losses affected the psyche of his team.
Oklahoma junior guard Buddy Hield was named the Associated Press’ Big 12 Player of the Year.
Bill Self of Kansas was named the Big 12 Coach of the Year after leading the Jayhawks to their 11th straight regular season league title.
Self is the first four-time AP Big 12 Coach of the Year winner.
Joining Hield on the first team are West Virginia senior guard Juwan Staten, Baylor forward Rico Gathers, Kansas junior forward Perry Ellis and Iowa State junior forward Georges Niang.
With the regular season finished, here is the bracket for the 2015 Phillips 66 Big 12 Men's Basketball Championship that tips off Wednesday at the Sprint Center in Kansas City.

The Bears took 40 percent of their shots in their first have at Texas from the perimeter but only made two of them.
Defensively, Texas Tech must do what its done the past few games.
Against Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, the Red Raider defense clogged the paint and dared the opponent to shoot the 3-pointer.
