Two more signees will be missing when Texas Tech reports Sunday for preseason practice.
Wide receiver Byron Daniels and offensive lineman Shaquille Davis both won’t be a part of the Red Raiders this fall, Tech spokesman Blayne Beal said. Daniels was signed from San Antonio Madison and Davis from Mt. San Antonio College (Calif.).
Daniels, a three-star prospect, is listed among Trinity Valley Community College’s signees for this season, and the three-star Davis indicated on Twitter that he was going to West Texas A&M. West Texas A&M coach Mike Nesbitt declined comment.
The Red Raiders’ 2014 recruiting class was ranked No. 41. With Daniels and Davis — and Connor Wilson, who football coach Kliff Kingsbury said won’t play because of a medical issue — excluded, they drop to No. 42, switching places with TCU.
The Red Raiders signed five wide receivers besides Daniels, who is 6 foot 1 and weighs 168 pounds and caught 72 passes for 1,128 yards and 12 touchdowns last fall. The 6-foot-4, 320-pound Davis would’ve provided depth on the offensive line, though the Red Raiders are strong with three full-time starters returning there.
