Record five Lady Raiders are All-Big 12

Five Texas Tech women’s tennis players were named to the All-Big 12 team announced on Tuesday by league officials.

The selection of Samantha Adams, Kenna Kilgo, Lynn Kiro, Nikki Sanders and Rashmi Teltumbde marks the first time since 2008 that one league school has had five players on the All-Big 12 squads.

Kiro, who is 28-6 overall and 9-0 in conference play earned All-Big 12 singles honors.

She is currently ranked No. 113 nationally.

Adams and Kilgo picked up their third straight All-Big 12 doubles honor while Sanders and Teltumbde received their first honor.

The two Lady Raider teams on the All-Big 12 doubles squad is a first for the program.

Adams is the most decorated player in school history adding this, her fourth, All-Big 12 doubles honor to the one she won as a freshman with former Lady Raider Kelsy Gardner. She also received All-Big 12 singles honors in 2012 and 2013.

Sanders and Teltumbde are 18-7 on the season and 16-4 at the No. 2 position.

Over the last two seasons, the duo has been ranked as high as No. 33 nationally and gone 42-16 in doubles play.

 

Soares named
All-Big 12 in singles

Texas Tech sophomore Felipe Soares has been named to the All-Big 12 singles team announced by league officials on Tuesday.

He is currently ranked No. 60 nationally in the ITA Top 125 singles rankings.

Soares is 22-10 overall and 14-8 in dual matches at the No. 1 position.

He is 7-8 against ranked players this season and has been named the second alternate for the 2014 NCAA Singles Championships.

 

FIve Pioneers make
all-SAC baseball unit

Five Wayland Baptist players were named to the all-Sooner Athletic Conference baseball team released Tuesday.

Catcher Tyler Doolittle, shortstop Aaron Vallance, outfielder Josh Alexander, designated hitter Mark Davis and starting pitcher Tom Bailey all were second-team honorees. Alexander also was named to the Gold Glove team.

Doolittle, Davis and Bailey are seniors. Alexander is a junior, and Vallance was one of only two freshmen to make the first or second teams.

Wayland finished the season 33-22.

Top-ranked Oklahoma Baptist, which beat No. 16 Oklahoma City 19-5 Monday in the SAC tournament championship game, had the SAC player of the year in Matt Page and coach of the year in Bobby Cox.

 

Tech men jump to No. 5 in track ranking

The Texas Tech men’s track and field team moved up four spots to No. 5 in this week’s rankings by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The Tech women are No. 21.

It’s the first top-five ranking for the Tech men since 2012.

Tech will host the Big 12 outdoor championships May 16-18.
