Tech’s Kithuka wins NCAA cross country championship

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Texas Tech runner Kennedy Kithuka won the NCAA cross country individual championship on Saturday, the first individual title in Tech men’s cross country history,

Kithuka, in his first year running for the Red Raiders, has not lost a race this season.

He won the 10,000-meter race with a time of 28 minutes, 31.3 seconds, seven seconds ahead of runner-up Stephen Sambu of Arizona.

Kithuka took the lead for good with 3,000 meters left in the race.

Before coming to Tech, Kithuka won NAIA championships in both the 5,000 and 10,000 while competing for Wayland Baptist.
