A first-team nod for Lady Raider Chynna Brown highlighted Texas Tech’s list of honorees for the All-Big 12 Conference superlatives, as voted by the league coaches and announced Thursday.
The senior from Dallas is Tech’s top scorer this season, averaging 13.6 points per game. She averages 16.8 points per Big 12 game, good enough for fourth in the league.
Fellow Lady Raiders Casey Morris and Monique Smalls were named to the second team, and Smalls made her third consecutive appearance on the All-Big 12 Defensive team.
Junior Lady Raider Jackie Patterson was named the co-Newcomer of the Year along with Oklahoma’s Portia Durrett. Patterson played two years at Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College before transferring to Tech.
Baylor’s Brittney Griner garnered unanimous Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year awards, and Kim Mulkey, also of Baylor, took home Coach of the Year honors.
Tech, which finished tied for third in the Big 12, begins play in the conference tournament at 11 a.m. Saturday against Oklahoma State in American Airlines Center.

Add commentI don't know how you get 10 people on the 'first team',
but that means the 2nd teamers are really 3rd string.
What's shocking is Patterson's recognition. I know there are a number of freshmen who had much better seasons.
Notable for not being mentioned in the article is Christine Hyde, who performed yeoman's work for this team. A guard going up against forwards and posts all season (lack of recruiting), she sacrificed her body and stats going up against bigger/taller players all year.
So, let me get this straight. Our AG Holder tells Congress that Predator drones (US Military) may be used to kill (assassinate) American citizens on American soil (unconstitutional act), and everyone gets all bent outta shape because of a finger in the air ?????????? Seriously misplaced values.
You go girl, let those scarecrows fly all over their cornfields and pig farms.
Incoming
Incoming Freshmen have their own category. Newcomers are almost always players who have transferred in after having played somewhere else. She was picked Newcomer of the year before the season started, largely because she was a juco AA. It would have made the conference "pickers" look foolish if she was left off the year-end list. She certainly did not live up to her AA credentials.
They still look foolish. Having ...
... 10 players on the first team, when only 5 can play at a time is ridiculous. Do we have to give everyone a participation ribbon too?
