Tech senior's mother diagnosed with breast cancer when she was in high school
Putting on her pink jersey means life to Kelsi Baker.
When the Texas Tech senior was in high school her mother, Valerie, was diagnosed with breast cancer. Watching her mother battle for her life was the toughest obstacle Baker has ever faced.
“She’s one of the strongest people I know, and to see her ... not be able to help herself was the hardest thing to see,” the Lady Raider forward said.
Valerie had a full mastectomy in the spring of 2009 and another five surgeries after that. Doctors caught the cancer early enough to avoid chemotherapy and radiation.
