If 20 wins is the magic number for Texas Tech to reach the NCAA tournament, the Lady Raiders will need to grab at least one road victory before next month’s Big 12 tournament. Four of Tech’s final six games are on the road, beginning at 7 p.m. today at Texas. Austin has been anything but hospitable for the Lady Raiders in recent history, and Tech coach Kristy Curry owns an 0-5 record at the Frank Erwin Center. Texas Tech to host 2013 NCAA women's basketball tournament 02/14/12 - 1:33am

Texas Tech was named one of the 16 host sites for the 2013 NCAA women’s basketball tournament, the NCAA committee announced Monday. United Spirit Arena will host first- and second-round games on either March 23 and 25 or March 24 and 26, 2013. The dates will be finalized in June. After scoring 16 points Wednesday in Stillwater, Okla., Texas Tech’s junior guard poured in 19 on Sunday to lead the Lady Raiders to a 51-41 victory against Iowa State. She was all over the floor at United Spirit Arena, sinking 3-point shots, penetrating the lane and generating offense with her authoritative mid-range jump shot.

Mallard suffers knee sprain

Mallard suffers knee sprain Texas Tech senior forward Kierra Mallard left Sunday’s game with 58 seconds remaining in the first half with a left knee sprain. Mallard made a short jump shot and then fell to the floor in pain. She was helped off the court and did not return to the game. She returned to the bench on a wheelchair with a immobilizer on her left leg. Tech coach Kristy Curry said Mallard will have an MRI on Monday morning. Her status is currently day to day. Pink out

Wins and losses will be secondary when Texas Tech hosts Iowa State at 1:30 p.m. today. Texas Tech will put on its annual “pink” game to promote breast cancer awareness and raise money for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
