WACO — Texas Tech sophomore Kole Weldon burst onto the scene nationally two months ago with a second-place finish in the shot put at the NCAA indoor track and field championships.
Shot put is his specialty, but he’s not bad at other throws, too.
On Friday, Weldon went 185 feet, 5 inches for fourth place in the hammer throw at the Big 12 Conference outdoor championships, giving Tech its first five points of the three-day meet.
“He hasn’t thrown the hammer a lot this year,” Tech coach Wes Kittley said, “but he went out there and did exactly what I wanted him to do.”
