DALLAS — Former Texas Tech golfer Chris Ward has a two-stroke lead halfway through the Texas Amateur Championship at Royal Oaks Country Club.
Ward, a McKinney native who won the Big 12 Conference title this spring, fired a 3-under-par 68 on Friday to reach 10 under for the tournament. Heading into today’s third round, he holds a two-stroke lead over The Woodlands’ Bryant Lach, who plays at Texas A&M.
Another former Red Raider, Will Griffin of San Antonio, is tied for ninth place at 3 under. Griffin, who was tied for second place after Thursday’s opening round, shot 1-over 72 on Friday.
