The NCAA on Friday placed Texas Tech on two years probation after agreeing with a Tech finding that coaches in football, men’s golf and softball violated an NCAA ban on sending text messages to recruits. The probation period runs from Jan. 7, 2011, through Jan. 6, 2013.

Big 12 reaches agreement on a new tiebreaker process (Talbot blog)

The Big 12 reached unanimous agreement on a new tiebreaker process Wednesday that ensures the conference will no longer have co-champions.

Texas Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt added one of the major pieces Tuesday in his remaking of the department. Hocutt hired Chad Weiberg from Kansas State to be his second in command.

Texas Tech's Kole Weldon did it again. Weldon won the hammer throw with a throw of 201 feet, 3 inches and broke the Red Raiders record on Day 1 of the Texas Tech Open on Friday. Four of his six throws went at least 192 feet.
