The Texas Tech women’s tennis team used a 7-0 thrashing of UTEP on Friday morning to prepare for a eventual 6-1 Big 12 Conference victory against West Virginia on Friday night. The No. 20 Lady Raiders (12-4, 2-0 in Big 12 play) lost only three singles sets on the day. The victory marks Tech’s 15th consecutive win at the McLeod Tennis Center. The doubles tandem of Elizabeth Ullathorne and Caroline Starck earned a perfect 8-0 victory against West Virginia’s Irina Toidze and Vivian Tsui.

The Texas Tech women’s tennis team began Big 12 Conference play with a bang Sunday, defeating No. 28 Oklahoma 6-1 at McLeod Tennis Center. The No. 21 Lady Raiders (10-4, 1-0 in Big 12 play) swept the doubles point and lost just two sets all day. Tech clinched the win when Rashmi Teltumbde defeated Whitney Ritchie, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 2 singles. Samantha Adams, Elizabeth Ullathorne, Caroline Starck and Nikki Sanders won their singles matches, with Adams defeating Herman Brhane in three sets.

Tech softball pounds Buffalo, cruises to easy tournament win 03/17/13 - 12:49am

SAN DIEGO — Gretchen Aucoin tossed five innings of shutout ball, and the Texas Tech softball team won its 10th straight game with an 8-0 shutout of Buffalo on Saturday, March 16 at the San Diego State Classic. Aucoin walked two and struck out eight in five innings of work to improve to 5-0 on the year. A single by Katelyn Williams and a double by Lexie Elkins led to a three-run third inning for the Red Raiders (24-8), who then closed the game with a five-run fifth.

SAN DIEGO — The No. 23 Texas Tech women’s tennis team earned a 5-2 win against No. 64 San Diego on Tuesday behind strong performances from Kenna Kilgo and Samantha Adams. Kilgo and Adams, the nation’s 47th-ranked doubles tandem, beat the San Diego pair of Stephanie Hoffpauir and Ann Depenau. Caroline Starck and Elizabeth Ullathorne also earned a victory to give Tech the all-important doubles point.

Kennedy Kithuka did it again. Texas Tech’s decorated long-distance runner won the 5,000 meters at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday at Arkansas, adding to a long list of collegiate accomplishments. Kithuka, who last fall won the NCAA cross-country championship, cruised to the line in 13:25.38, nearly five seconds ahead of the nearest finisher, Diego Estrada of Northern Arizona. Kithuka missed the meet record by a .27 seconds.
