Kelley, Tech letterman and noted helmet manufacturer, dies at 89
When Spike Dykes was a young football coach at Coahoma, Bill Kelley would swing by regularly to supply the team with sporting goods. When Dykes was an older football coach at Texas Tech, Kelley would be there to lift his spirits after a tough loss.
On Monday, Dykes spoke at Kelley’s funeral.
Kelley, who went from being Texas Tech’s last three-sport letterman to a football helmet manufacturer known nationwide with products used by the NFL, died Friday in Arlington. He was 89.
