Baron Batch assigned to practice squad by Steelers as part of roster moves   11/21/12 - 7:24pm

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Plaxico Burress is back where he once belonged. The Pittsburgh Steelers brought back the veteran wide receiver on Tuesday to provide depth at a position decimated by injuries while hoping there's enough gas left in the 35-year-old's tank to give the offense an added dimension near the goal line.

'Interim' equine mascot receives positive reviews after first public appearance   11/13/12 - 1:12am

Horse owned by Lubbock resident

The black horse that carried Texas Tech’s Masked Rider across the Jones AT&T Stadium field Saturday received positive reviews. Sam Jackson, associate chair and professor of Animal Science, said the horse didn’t run hard across the field, but it didn’t get scared and run off either. “It was fine,” Jackson said. “He didn’t just charge down the field, because it was his first time. He was a little hesitant, but he wasn’t scared. You have to run it a few times before you can go hard, straight down the field.”

Kansas State, Oregon, Notre Dame top BCS standings ... Tech falls to 23rd   11/11/12 - 9:43pm

NEW YORK (AP) — Kansas State and Oregon are now on course to play for the BCS national championship. After Alabama was upset by Texas A&M, the new BCS standings have the Wildcats (.9674) first and the Ducks (.9497) second. Notre Dame (.9396) is third, not too far behind, but most likely in need of a loss by Oregon or Kansas State to reach the title game on Jan. 7 in Miami. "These teams are in their order and the only way that order changes is if somebody gets beat," said Jerry Palm, of CBS Sports and collegebcs.com.
