The Houston Texans will donate the proceeds from their first game-day auction to support three children who were orphaned and seriously injured in a car accident last month.
The Texans play the New York Jets on Aug. 15. The team’s foundation operates an auction during each home game, and the money raised will be earmarked to help 9-year-old Peter, 8-year-old Aaron and 6-year-old Willa Berry.
The children’s parents, Joshua and Robin, were killed in a collision as the family was returning home from a vacation in Colorado.
GREEN BAY, Wis.
Asked about a sloppy showing by the Green Bay Packers offense the night before, Aaron Rodgers channeled his inner Allen Iverson.
“Practice?” Rodgers said Tuesday in a deadpanned tribute to the NBA star’s oft-imitated rant. “We’re talking about practice? Not talking about the game, talking about practice, right?”
Rodgers acknowledged that the offense made too many mistakes Monday night, but didn’t see any sense in dwelling on it.
And the quarterback firmly dismissed the notion that the reigning Super Bowl champions made a mistake by not getting together for informal practice sessions during the lockout, offering only a one-word answer: “No.”
